Plants Get Hungry, Too!Lower_Level_02
Photosynthesis is how a plant turns energy into food. It happens in the leaves. Not all leaves look the same either.
Some leaves are tiny. Some are round. Some leaves are huge. Some are shaped like hearts. Some leaves are long. Some are skinny. Each type of leaf has the same job though. No matter what it looks like. Plants change to each place they live in. A plant that lives in shade has bigger leaves to get more sunlight. A plant with small skinny leaves might be in a sunny spot.

A plant has other parts with other jobs too. Roots take in water and nutrients from the soil. Roots hold a plant firmly to the ground. A plant cannot survive without roots. Another plant part is the stem. The stem transports food and water throughout the whole plant.
A plant stem works like a straw. In fact, if you cut open a plant stem, you will see it looks like a straw!
