A Foggy Day Lower Level_02

Water vapor is the gaseous form of liquid water. It is in the air. When air cools, it holds less water vapor. As a result, some of the water vapor is turned back into liquid water. This is called condensation. Condensation explains why glasses of cold drinks ‘sweat’on a hot sticky day.

Lucky and I ate breakfast and then I got ready for school.

Condensation

I step out the door and realize I cannot see the end of the street! It is steamy outside with a thick fog. I met my friend Amy at the corner. The two of us always walk to the bus stop together. Even though I cannot see her I know she is waiting for me.

“It’s like walking through a cloud,” Amy exclaimed. “That is true. This is fog. It is nothing more than a low cloud,” I explain. The Sun starts to rise. By the time we get to school, the fog is almost gone.

After my first class was over, the sun was shining. It was much warmer outside compared to the morning. The grass was also no longer wet. The water droplets had all evaporated. Evaporation is when liquid water turns back into water vapor, its gaseous form.

The day went by quickly. As usual, science class was fun. Mrs. Barnhart was teaching how the water cycle works.

We built a model by using plastic containers, dirt, and water. In our containers we poured the water into the dirt. It turned into mud. Gross! Then, we closed the containers and put them under heat lamps.
