Heat and Temperature (FK 3.3)_03

Heat always moves from hot to cold. Heat is the energy that flows. It will flow until both objects have the same temperature. How can you find the temperature of an object?

Measuring Temperature

Scientists use a tool to measure temperature. The tool is called a thermometer. You have most likely seen a thermometer. Do you know how they work?

Did you know most things expand when they get hot? You can try it for yourself. Blow up a balloon. Measure how big it is by wrapping a string around it. Now place it in a refrigerator. Take it back out after one hour and measure it again. The balloon will be smaller because the air inside is colder. Heat moved from the warm balloon into the colder refrigerator. What would happen if the balloon was placed in the warm Sun? Correct, it will expand or get larger. This is just like how a thermometer works.
