Heat and Temperature (FK 3.3)_02

Heat Transfer and Temperature

Are heat and temperature the same thing? Are they related? Heat and temperature are not the same thing. They are, however, related. Temperature tells you how hot or cold something is. Heat is the energy that is transferred from one thing to another.

What happens when you grab a hot item? What do you feel? Of course, you feel the heat coming from the hot item. The heat from the object is being transferred to your hand.

What would happen if you touch an ice cube? You can feel that it is very cold. What if you hold it for a while? What will happen? That’s correct! The ice cube will begin to melt. The heat from your warm hand is making the ice change into liquid water. Heat is moving from your warm hand to the cool ice cube.
