G4 Conservation of Mass (400 – 500)_02

The physical change of the clay being pulled apart seems basic. Of course, the small pieces had the same mass as what you started with if you include what was stuck on the tips of your fingers. What if this change was not a physical change? Would the mass still stay the same? What if the change was chemical, like baking a cake? Would the conservation of mass still apply?

Your parents take you camping at a nearby State Park at least twice a year. While there, you go on hikes and fish in the nearby lake. Your favorite part of camping is when everyone sits around the campfire in the evening. You contribute to these evening by gathering the sticks and logs for the fire. You help your father, who is an expert at carefully stacking the wood, to make the perfect campfire. The fire will burn for many hours. In the morning. all that is left is a small pile of ashes. The large pile of sticks and logs you gathered the night before are gone.
