Coping with Seasonal Changes (MS Approaching)_04
Some animals, like whales, eat large amounts of food during the warmer months. Their bodies can store this energy as fat. During the winter months, they can survive off this stored fat. To save energy, they swim to warmer waters. For example, many blue whales spend their summers feasting in the food-rich waters off Alaska. When colder temperatures start to return, they migrate, or travel, to warmer waters. Being in warmer water helps them conserve energy. It is in these warmer waters where they also give birth to their young.
