G6 – Why is the Ocean Salty? 600-700L -04

The important part for us is this physical change of water going from a liquid to a gas. This change allows the dissolved salt to be separated from the water. It’s really a win-win for the human race. Our bodies can’t survive without salt. We also use salt for many reasons. It keeps food from spoiling. It is also used for many industrial purposes. Salt is, now and always has been, an important resource. Thanks to the water cycle, salt will stay an abundant resource.

The next time you hear that Earth has plenty of water, “take it with a grain of salt,” because you are skeptical of the quality of what you are swallowing. Always remember it all comes back to Earth’s water cycle. If not for it, we would have neither the salt we value, nor the fresh water we need. Understanding the water cycle process will surely place you, “above the salt,” a sign of prestige in ancient times. You can, “take that to the bank!”
