Lab Safety1 Approaching_2

Surviving the chilly walk, Julie and Fernando entered the Chemistry building. Once inside, the guard greeted them.

“Hello you two,” said Henry, a student who works nights as a guard to earn extra money.

“Hi Henry,” Fernando replied.

“Hi Henry,” Julie stated with a shivering voice.

“What were you thinking dressing like that, Julie? You do realize it’s not summer, right?” Henry commented to Julie.

“I know. I know.  I was at soccer practice. What can I say?” Julie said with a smile.

“Let me get you two some coffee. I just made a new pot.” Said Henry, walking over to get two large cups of steaming black coffee. “Thanks,” responded Fernando. “Besides being a little chilly, it is going to be a long night.”

“You don’t have to tell me,” said Henry. “When I get home, I still need to read one more chapter for my European History class.”

With coffee in hand, the two chemistry students walked into the lab. “I’ll get the chemicals out,” Fernando yelled, as he walked into the chemical storage closet.

“Okay,” said Julie, as she tossed her backpack up onto the lab bench. Fernando returned with the needed supplies. At the same time, Julie pulled out a surprise from her backpack. “You hungry, Fernando?” asked Julie. “I made soup last night. There was plenty left over, so I brought some along in case we get hungry.”

“Is it warm?” asked Fernando.

“No,” stated Julie, “we need to nuke it.”

“Here, just pour it in this beaker. I just washed them yesterday. I’ll put it in the microwave. You mix the chemicals,” stated Fernando.
