Lab Safety1 Approaching_1
Two students at XYZ University need to finish a lab experiment. They have been working on this lab for the past three weeks. Today, they need to run one more set of tests in order to finish. With the week of finals coming up, today is the last day they have to work in the lab. Though they have limited time this afternoon, they feel confident they can finish. That is assuming all goes as planned.
Julie and Fernando are chemistry majors. They think of themselves as experts in both content and lab practice. They enjoy Science and are happy as they stroll to the Science building. It just happens to be the furthest building from the parking lot. The day is sunny but cool. There is a light breeze blowing from the north. Julie held the collar of her jacket tight as she walked in the chilly wind. It had not seemed as cold earlier in the day when she was at soccer practice.
Julie was still wearing her uniform of shorts and a jersey. The light jacket she grabbed out of the back seat of her car was not quite enough. Being a gentleman, Fernando took off his heavier jacket and offered it to Julie. Julie thanked him and wrapped the heavy coat over her shoulders.
“You don’t have a hat too, by chance, do you?” Julie jokingly asked as her long hair blew in the cool breeze.
“No,” laughed Fernando. “Nor do I have shoes for you.” Julie looked down at the flip-flops on her feet. Julie shrugged her shoulders and kept walking toward the lab.
