G3- changing Weather_02

You are running late again. You don’t want to be late for school two days in a row. As you dash for the door, you hear your mother call out, “Don’t forget your jacket!” You wonder why you need a jacket. Yesterday, it was warm. Why is today cool enough for a jacket? How can the weather change so much in one day?

Weather never seems to be the same. It seems to always change, sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. One day it might be too cold to play outside. The next day might be warm and sunny. On yet another day, it may be so hot you don’t want to be outside. Even on the same day, the weather can change a lot. A sunny morning might be followed by a stormy afternoon.

In school, you have learned that there are many things that affect the weather. Air temperature, wind, and precipitation are just some of those things.

That still doesn’t answer the question, “Why does the weather change so quickly?”

The way air masses move is the main reason for changes in the weather. An air mass is a large body of air. An air mass could be cold or warm. For example, if a cold air mass covers an entire state, the whole state will have cold weather.

The type of weather that happens depends on where the air mass came from.
